Hello fellas, I am a new owner of a 2000 disco with ace. I have many questions about "normal noise" to start there is a loud humming that I think may be the transfer case, is this normal? There is a similar noise while turning at low speed witch the dealer said it is the ACE and is normal, it sounds like when you run low on power s fluid, normal? I just brought it into there shop for what I thought was a valve tap and upon his phone call said that it was the MAF and they are waiting for the part, could this be true about it sounding like a tap or causing a tap? Prior to me taking it to the shop I brought it down to AutoZone to check the codes and there codes said something about the tranny and 2- o2 sensors, Is there a possibility that there code scanner would pull different codes? I apologize in advance if these are stupid questions, but I am at wits end and getting ready to pull that sob over the counter. Thanks gents. Joe

On a D2 if you get tranny and O2 sensor codes at the same time, it is a good change it is the MAF sensor.

They whining sound is probably the ACE (they are very noisy) Add some lucas transmission fix and it may quite it down some.

Thanks Joey, what about the tap is that a normal noise or a possible cause from the MAF like the dealer said? I don't really care about the noises so long it's not going to damage anything. TY...Joe

The Lucus trans fix, do I just add that to the res? If so, do I syphon out some fluid and how much? TY again...Joe

Just add some in, you are probably low anyways... if not then are you sure your driving a Rover?

Taping noise could be a manifold (they tend to crack), my normal response is to get a mechanic's stethiscope or long screwdriver and with the engine running start checking for sounds...

Just be careful and don't put anything in the fan while your doing this.

What manifold should I be checking, the exhaust or the intake? I guess "sea foam" wont help me out. Are the rockers in the 2000 4.0 adjustable? Joe

exhaust manifold, and seafoam may help if it is a valve issue.
