Anybody out there using octane boost or any other additives to squeeze another 1/2 a mile out of your beast? I've read that it's not the best thing, but I just got 340 miles out of my last tank of gas, and it was 87 Octane. I can't usually get that type of mileage out of my truck unless I'm running premium. I'm still running BG44K, but I haven't since the end of June. That stuff is way better than seafoam. I'll be ording another couple of cans today off e-bay. Was just wondering if anyone was running alternatives to stretch out fuel economy....

Hey!

Live in Sweden. Lowest octane here is 95. Recently tried running on 99, very little difference in fuel economy. Don't even think it pays. Is there a difference in engine configuration here an on the LRs overseas? According to the manual it must not be run on less than 95 octane without adjustments. Been thinking about different ways of improving economy. Maybe installing aftermarket high power ignition system and increase electrode distance on sparkplugs? Unless Lucas objects...

In Canada I run on 91 RON Shell with a noticable improvement in gas mileage. The manual states 90 RON. Stay away from fuels with ethanol ... this will reduce your mileage by about 10% or more, as ethanol is not as "potent" as gasoline/petrol (Europe uses a different standard/number than NA). I used to use Sunoco 94 (with Ethanol) and the mileage was less than Shell.

Another way is to replace the oil in the engine with a quality synthetic motor oil. Reduces engine wear, friction, heat etc. which also improves mileage.

Not sure if we can still get "real" gas here in the states. Everything seems to be made with Ethanol here. Not sure if the independant gas stations still sell fuel without ethanol, but I will pay attention to that bit of information. Fuel with Ethanol might as well be water. My truck knocks like crazy with that stuff.
