I need some advice pertaining to the oil pressure sending unit.
I own a 1996 Disco and the oil light comes on only when Ideling and the AC is
turned on. If I turn off the AC the oil light goes out. Also, this problem only occurs when the engine is ideling in gear (auto trans.) or in park. Seems like the oil sending unit may be bad or a bad connection. What do you think ?

Where are the plug connectiors located for the sending unit ? Also, could my serpintine belt be loose ? I found the temp senor connector near the water pump. I know the oil sensor connection is on the timing cover. But where is the timing cover ? Whic accessory is it near or is the timing cover on the rear of the engine near the firewall?

Also, where is the Oil Logic unit or computer located ? I'd like to clean the connections and check the wires for breaks and us a multimeter to test. If the problem does not go away then I'll unplug the unit till I replace the oil logic unit. Hopefully a good cleaning will resolve my issue. The flashing light bugs the devil out of me.
Thank you.

Also there is no oil logic unit on a Disco, but you ECU IIRC on the 96 is located on the passenger side of the engine bay behind the fuse block.

S-belt can only be loose if the tensioner goes bad, which you will notice because it will squeak a lot.

The oil sensor is not on the timing cover, which the timing cover will be on the front of the engine.

Just so you also know the oil pressure sensor either works or it doesn't, low pressure kicks the light on. 90% of oil light issues on Land Rovers i.e prior to the LR3 or the 03 RR, are caused by sludge in the engine and the oil pick up tube being clogged.

Sludge could be the culprit, I'll disconnect the idiot light till I pickup a new oil pan
gasket. I don't trust motor slush to do the trick by itself, but I'll run Marvels Mystery Oil thru for 100 miles and drain and clean the oil pan and pick tube.

I think I saw a connector plug beside the oil filter. I'll download a tech manual because I'm going to need it in the future based on some of the other posts I've read.
Thanks again!

I wouldn't worry about a oil pan gasket, permitex works great and will seal better.
