Did a search through the forum and could not find anything related to this one. Upon starting my truck tonight the red oil light came on. Unfortunately the closest dealer is 2 and half hours away. I was not going to attempt anything tonight so we did our little trip of five miles and on the way home turned off the heater. Well upon doing that the oil light went off. So I turned the heat on again, oil light on. Turned the just the fan up one notch and light comes on. If I leave it at the lowest setting the light stays off.

Sooo the big question is what is happening? I am assuming it is an electrical issue.

It is a 2005 LR3 SE with 78,000 miles just had a service back in sept. and replacement of the air compressor a few weeks ago. Other than that no real issues.

Rare one indeed...The oil light means loss of oil pressure. I wouldn't drive any rig with the oil light on. Sure way to **** an engine.

First time I have heard of just the oil light on since LR3 introduced. Have you recently had any water ingress problems? Any damp musty smell in the carpet footwell areas? Any big rains? I wouldn't be comfortable driving it with a red oil alert regardless. I would check under the hood for obvious signs as well.

Captain Obvious here,

Did you check your oil level or condition of the oil?

Start there then see what you find.

No water issues as she hangs in the garage most days, did take it through the car wash last night but drove it home no issues.

Oil was the first thing checked, and the level was fine and the oil was still fairly clear from the oil change in SEP, maybe a 1500 miles on it since the last oil change. The engine sounds the same as well, no change in any gauges or behavior of the truck.

If the oil light was not affected by turning on the air I would be pointing in the oil pressure direction but the light seems to be tied to turning on the air. How would the air and oil light be tied together?

Is there an easy way to test the oil pressure? (none that I know of)

I can 99% sure say its water on the fuse box

Same thing happened on my 05 HSE 2 years ago. There's actually a Range Rover Sport / LR3 TSB from a few years ago on this. Basically symptom is that water leaks in thru the a-pillars, just a bit, and runs down right onto the fuse box behind the passenger side dashboard. The symptoms are the oil light being illuminated, and sometimes the climate control fan acting erratically.

What needs to happen is you pull off the A-pillar plastic (open the hood first) and if there are pegs that go thru the body of the car w/ little foam seals, you need an update kit that includes new clips and more importantly, these black plastic discs/stickers that go over the holes int he body.

If you do a search for a-pillar, water ingress, oil light here and elsewhere you'll find this, sorry that I dont have the info handy right this sec but I had my truck towed to the dealer for this and it turned out to be a very simple water drip in just the right place.

NOTE: This is different than the leaky sunroof / clogged sunroof drain tube issue.

Good call on the water egress, started the truck this morning and fault is gone even when turning on the fan. I am thinking the pressure from the sprayers in the car was got water into there.

I did pull off the pillar and checked it, no water but you could tell by the amount of residue (especially at the lowest two holes) that water had been in there at a point. I don't think all the disks were there either though some of the plastic grommits had them. I will bring this up to the dealer.

Thanks for all the responses. It really pays off to have something like this to work through the issues sometimes.
