As far as the hack/retrofit, why don't you think the PTI functions would not work especially if it is a NOKIA cradle with the antenna and phone connection cables coming off?

The PTI interface isn't "generic" and is specific to the Land Rover cradles. The special cradle is what has the logic to interface the specific phone to the PTI system.

Also - When I get the Nokia 3589i (just ordered), I will see if per chance it fits Cradle #3????

If it isn't on the cradle supported list, odds are it won't work. For example, the Nokia 6230 works... but the updated Nokia 6230i doesn't! But I guess you have a chance.
