I literally have never used the in dash nav. Ever. I bought this truck used in 2016, and even then my iPhone was better for all nav / infotainment etc. hence I never aligned the maps.

Will take a look tomorrow and see what’s what and change it.

By the way is there any way to have the back up camera on and engaged on the screen full time without backing up? I would rather have that than the nav any day.

Apple CarPlay has to be in my next vehicle, it makes everything so much better and your phone doesn’t even need a mount, it can be plugged in and set down.

I actually had my black cord in the seem of the dash you can see in the pic and plugged into my older wires less magnetic charger that I had to replace because the charge was so slow it couldn’t keep up with the phone being on and using Waze for longer trips.

When I get the new cable I will re run it and take a pic to share.

    Cheers,
    AG

I periodically scan the webs for info on retrofitting Carplay into the LR4. There are some hacks for getting it onto an iPad but they involve jailbreaking and I'm not crazy about that. Wireless Carplay in the Rover would be the holy grail.

There is a system that adds CarPlay. It appears to be full China, aka no real tech support. I believe it retains all of the OEM functions as well.

I have seen a few people successfully install it though. It's also like $700 or something.

The day a real company adds CarPlay to our nav screen while retaining the 4x4 info pages and OEM stuff, I'm down.

I used the genuine Apple MagSafe (for the iPhone 12) mount. I haven't had any issues with it coming free.

Adding CarPlay to the LR4 has been quite possibly the single greatest improvement I've made to the vehicle - it's modernised it so much. I ordered the wireless NaviPlus unit and it was flaky to begin with, but with a recent update it's completely rock solid. I use the MagSafe to charge the phone, and when I start the LR4, it wirelessly connects to CarPlay. Between Google Maps and GaiaGPS I have the best options for navigating when on road and off road, and it's a breeze to listen to podcasts or music.

I used the NaviPlus system sold from Australia. The price was around $700 and they do offer product support.

It replaces the "Nav" screen on the OEM system, so you can still access the 4x4 info pages and other elements of the OEM experience.

Niiice. I am going to look into it. Don’t really plan on selling the rig for another few years so adding Apple would be huge.

Did you install yourself? Or had it done? You don’t happen to be in NYC or the surrounding areas are you?

    Cheers mate,
    Adrien

Yep, that's the one. NaviPlus regularly have discount codes and group buys. I would send them an email ahead of time and see if they currently have any promotions active.

I installed it myself. It's a bit fiddly, but not too difficult. You have to pull the entire center console out to get access to everything you need, but it can be done with standard tools. The trickiest part is unclipping the piece of trim that sits beneath the screen to get access to the screws there. The kit comes with two boxes: one is the main computer/CarPlay unit, and the other is an interface for the Land Rover display. The instructions talk about mounting them behind the screen or behind the main entertainment unit, but I couldn't get them to fit there. I installed them both underneath where the shift knob lives - there's enough room. I would recommend buying a right-angle HDMI cable to connect between both boxes though.

Here's a random photo showing it working:
