Radio Unlock Codes

Hi All,

My CD changer is locked up. My local LR dealer says around $1500 to fix it. I see a guy in Fl with some salvaged radio/cd players. In his description it mentions that radios come with "VIN# and code to unlock radio unit". Do all replacement radios, even new ones, have to be unlocked before they'll work?

Don't know the answer about the codes, but after a while, the CD player might unlock. Every time you cycle the ignition to start the car it gives it a fresh chance

I hardwired an iPod/iPhone connector into mine, and no longer have to play CD roulette.
