I am having a strange situation that I would love some ideas on if anybody has some. I have a 96 Disco, The rear A/C will rapidly start to turn on and off like its shorting out occasionally. It can be off and then all the sudden start turning it self on and off or be on and then start doing the same thing. The only way to stop it is to take a a folded piece of paper and put it between the switch and the dash so that its stuck at a halfway position. So I assumed it was that switch, so I bought a new one and installed it and it does the same thing. So then of course I thought it might be the rear switch so I disconected that one and it still does it. Any ideas?

Could be the fan switch/selector. if you are running the rear fan on 4, try selecting 3 or 2 and see if the issue continues.

Okay I tried changing the selection to 3 as I have kept it on 4 and it still is having the problem. What are the chances that the problem is in the switches on the rear A/C. If that is where it most like is I will order a new one. Or if there is a way to disconect that one and have it still work that would be okay to.

If you added the piece of paper causing the switch to stick half way... I wonder... have you check the freon level? Remember the Rover with rear air still runs off of the same compressor when you select rear air it now has to pump to both condensors could be the level is low.
