Hello, I'm new to this site and am currently experiencing a major problem with Farnell landrover in Leeds; I would be interested in any advice you can offer.
I purchased my car new in march 2007 it has done 70,000 miles. Last month it went into the farnell landrover for it's MOT. I was advised that a new damper kit was required, new oil seals to the front diff and new brake discs and pads to the rear. They had trouble getting the old dampers off and needed two attempts to put in the oil seals due to having crimped them up the first time - £1150 and almost a week later I collected the car! I drove out of the garage and within 100 yards heard a noise comming from the front of the vehicle when i took my foot off the accelerator. there was also some vibration in the footwell. i immediately returned to the garage and following a test drive was told that the rear diff had failed - quoted £900 for the repair! - Due to having to undergo major surgery a few days later i agreed to have the work done ( al-be-it undergreat protest). Upon collecting the car I was told that they had also swapped the wheels round. I again test drove the vehicle and the fault was still very much apparent. I again left it with them and went into hospital for my op. the garage phoned my wife and said they had again swapped the wheels round and the fault was now cured. The garage will not release the car unless we agree to pay for the replacement rear diff. I am not confident that they have fixed the fault as I am convienced that the fault was not related to road noise - I am unable to drive for at least an other three weeks and am refusing to pay for the rear diff replacement.
My questions are:
1. Is it common for the rear diff of the RangeRover Sport 3.6 TDI to fail?
2. Is it possible that the work done during the mot has caused this noise to occur?
3. Any suggestions as to what the actual fault may be?
Thank you, Rob
