I thought I'd share some pictures of a mod I made to my '06 LR3 SE. We bought this car because of the amazing seat configuration options. I have three kids (newborn, 2, 6) and thus three car seats (baby seat base, full car seat, booster seat). I noticed that the center seat of the 2nd row could easily be removed (by removing 6 Torx-50 bolts). The seat is not connected to the seats on either side. Once I popped the seat out, it made for easy ingress/egress for my 6 year old. Basically it creates two captain's chairs (or as my friend says - mini van seating).
Check out my gallery for the pictures.
But the floor looked ugly. Uneven carpet levels and exposed bolt holes. I remembered in the DVD they give you with the new car they show a LR3 with tan leather, but black floor carpet (it looks really cool. too bad they don't offer this from the factory). So I decided to do it myself.
I pulled the rest of the 2nd row seats out. I then took high density foam and custom cut inserts to build up the carpet such that it was at an even level down the center. I then bought black automotive carpet (6' x 6' piece) and custom fit a carpet overlay on the existing beige floor carpet. The black carpet is attached with double stick carpet tape and tucked under the door sills, the back edge of the carpet and under the front seats. I then reinstalled my floor mats on top of the black carpet. It looks very nice.
All in all, the layout now works great. I can leave the two baby seats permanantly attached to the right and left 2nd row. And my 6 yr old can walk down the center isle with ease to his booster seat. It really opens up the feel of the car.
Total cost = ~$25 (had to buy a T-50 socket). Total time = ~3 hours.
Let me know what you think.
