I've had a new LR3 HSE for about a month now and something about the tire noise is bothering me and I'm not sure if it's universal or just something I should expect on a $55K car.

The Goodyear 255 55R19's on my car make a bit of noise above 60 MPH and have a slight vibration to them. It's not real noticeable, but on the right road (smooth) and the right speed, I hear it.

I left the car with Land Rover last week. They took it for two test drives and said they heard nothing. I got the tech to come on a ride with me and he then heard the audibles. I left the car with him overnight, and got it back the next afternoon with a note that tires had been balanced and rotated. Nothing more, nothing less, but the noise still persists.

Anyway, I think it's one defective tire. They probably moved it to the back of the car where I can't hear it, but that ploy was only temporary. Should I be asking for new tires? They have a warranty on them.

No other problems. Car has 1900 miles on it. Getting 15 MPG @ $2.40 a gallon. Nice.

Yes they should replace the tire. Sometimes tire are out of round so even if you balance it, it'll vibrate. I only go to places that have a load force balancer the gsp9700 by Hunter. Its the only way to have your car tires run as smooth as it can. Some Discount Tire places have them, but charge something like $10/tire to use them.

Just to be certain, change the suspect tire with your spare. If the noise disappears, great! If it persists, then it's the tread pattern of the tires.

Its gotta be a tire... Mine are silent.
I had a set of Michelins on my old Yukon which would not drive straight.... After three times on the alignment rack they swapped out the tires and it was all good. Tires can be bad.

Switching the spare sounds like the best solution. I just need to figure out which tire is making the noise.

The LR dealer I go to (Rosenthal in Tyson's Corner, VA) said they have one of those load force balancers, but it didn't seem to help. We'll talk replacement with them today. Everything else is great.

jptruck - Rosenthal is where I go too. I had the same issue with tire balance and since they did their deal at the dealership I'm adding air to the right rear tire weekly. Just haven't had tome to go argue with them again.

Who's your service advisor?

UPDATE: I took the car in last week for a re-check on the tires. The tech guy said there is noise, but it's consistent with the noise in all LR3's at speeds above 65 MPH. The did a re-balance and replaced one tire, my left front. The noise still persists, but I'm too tired of this crap to pursue further.

LR dealers burn me up. It's my second time in there to get this problem looked at, and both times took 9-hours plus. The first time, I even left it overnight.

The kicker to this visit was I came back from my meeting/lunch and ended up following my car back to the dealership. When it got there, one of the customer service reps (a cutie) gets out of the front seat with drink in hand. My car pulls off with a tech in the front seat and TWO FREAKING KIDS in the rear. It was take your kids to work day, and I guess my car got volunteered for lunch duty. I was irate and complained to anyone that would listen, but they said "we had to take it out for a test spin." When they returned the car, I had muddy kid foot prints on some documents I had left in the back seat (they had made their way to the floor).

NICE JOB LR. Just thought I'd share this tidbit with the world.

Report them to LRNA. Dealers do not like getting bad feedback... no matter what people may say, it is not good for them.

Dealer is Rosenthal Land Rover. I calculated that 27% of my new car's miles have been spent back and forth to the dealership (2,000 miles). Also, 10% of the time I've had the car, it's been in service for one reason or another. Wrote LRNA a letter expressing as much.
