Hi all, I just bought a '93 LWB, and I am struggling with the stereo wiring. The previous owner(s) conveniently cut off the stock connectors, making it extremely difficult to sort out.
Between LR's wiring diagram and a pinout diagram of the factory Pioneer unit, I've been able to figure out what each wire is supposed to do (which required both diagrams!), but I'm stumped by the subwoofer:
The output is pin 9 on connector C2 (closest to the top of the head unit) of the radio. The factory diagram shows this as a red wire with a yellow tracer (RY), which, ganged with all the other outputs in a shielded cable, makes a beeline to the amp in the rear compartment. What's stumping me is this: the RY subwoofer wire has a little connector (factory) on the end. Nope, not the one that would have plugged into the back of the radio. Instead, it connects the wire to...a little sub-harness for the a/d/s subwoofer knob - the one that sits in the auxiliary switch panel. The subwoofer knob that is NOT shown on the factory diagram... No cut wires, everything looks to be intact, including the connections at the knob . How does the subwoofer output (from the head unit) get to the RY wire??
If anybody out there has the factory a/d/s setup, I would sure appreciate it if you could help me make sense of this. I can post some pictures if it will help, but I'm fairly sure the solution to the puzzle will be found by inspecting an original harness that has not been cut. I'm planning on making up a little webpage devoted to the a/d/s system and wiring, because as of right now, any info available on the web is only helpful if the wiring hasn't been tampered with in any way. Many thanks in advance!
