I just put 285/60-18 Cooper Zeon LTZs on mine. In your opinion, could I get that to fit underneath fully inflated? Do you need to trip if you keep it deflated? Can you give any more detail on the trimming required? Thanks!

I don't know if a fully inflated 285/60-18 will fit even with a trimmed shield. It's about .4" larger in dia. than the 275/60-18 and the 275/60 was a tight fit. I have seen some LR3's with the shield removed, there are only 4 bolts holding it in place, but I wanted to keep mine in place.
You might try NWOODS for more info on fitting the 285/60, IIRC he could only run about 10-15 psi in his spare but I don't know what he did about the shield.

Here is a picture of the trimmed shield, it took a couple of tries before I had enough material cut out. I also cleaned up the cuts after this picture was taken.

That's what I have on mine and I have one as a spare underneath. Slightly deflated to make it fit though. But I have an air compressor on board, so if I need to fill it up on the road, it's no problem. Here's a pic. It sticks out a little. As you can see from this angle, you don't need to trim the plastic cover. That's what those two bumps are sticking out a little at the front of the tire. What I'd like to try is removing the "oreo" spacers above the tire to allow it to be cranked up in there a little higher. They are at least an inch and a half thick. Anyone try that yet?

Yes, I took them out with little problem and they go back in easier then taking them out if you ever need to put a space saver back in. They are needed for the space saver.

I had to use a pipe wrench to turn the rubber stop while holding a box wrench on the bolt on the other side. They were on there very tight. But, as I said they are much easier to put back on if needed.

Works great to get the larger full spare a bit higher up.

I did also remove my plastic cover but that was more because it was hanging up on rocks on the trail and I was tearing it up anyway.

I think Nwoods has his off also when I looked under his vehicle on the trail a few weeks ago.

Do you guys ever drag the tire when it's hanging that low? How low do you keep the tire inflated? 20psi? I keep a compressor on board too but to add 20lbs would take it 20 minutes I would guess, it's not fast.

I do not usually have the tire underneath when offroad. I figure that when I need it it will be to hard to get to so I put it in the back.

Sounds like you need a better compressor! Yes, I'd say the spare is kept at around 15-20 when stowed. If I'm off road, I'd only need to add 10-15 pounds though. Going from the ~28 or so I normally run off road back up to 38-42 for on road usually only takes a few minutes per tire. I've got a Viair 440P, BTW.

I haven't dragged it yet, even on some pretty rough rides. But I should probably put it up top on the rack. Too lazy.

Thanks Trynian for the advice on the spacers. I'm going to give that a try.

Hello all!
I am not new to the forum (in fact read the new posts daily) but typically not very vocal.

I am looking for a full size spare tire for my 2007 LR3 SE V8. I upgraded the tires to a set of the Yokohama Geolander 275 60 18 (thanks to the info posted by nwoods) but have yet to upgrade/replace the spare. I have seen a number of owners offering to share in a set of 18" for anyone located on the West Coast (I am located on the East Coast in the Princeton, NJ area) but having shipped a set of Audi Allroad wheels and tires to Boulder once I know how expensive shipping wheels and tires can be. So what I am hoping to find out is:
Does anyone have an 18" LR3 wheel that they are willing to part with in the Princeton area?
Is there a Steel wheel out there that would fit the LR3?
Any other options?

Thanks

I just bought another 18" rim on ebay. There are several 5 spoke ones avaialble this week. Last month I could only find the 10 spoke so I picked up a cheap one from AZ since I needed it right away for a trip.

Several of the sellers use flat rate shipping.

This one from Az. Flat rate shipping.

This one from the midwest, I do not know if it is flat rate or not but closer to you if not.
