I have a Land Rover which my father bought in 1955. It has now covered 40,000 (fairly tough) miles so is in fair condition for an unrestored vehicle. The only problem I have with it is starting from cold. It starts OK (with choke and no throttle) but for the first five minutes, it will not respond to the throttle other than by coughing, jerking, backfiring and other embarassing behavioural symptons. The engine runs fast enough with the choke to be able to drive along at slow speeds without using the throttle. Once the engine is warmed up, it drives perfectly. I have had the problem for at least twenty five years. Mechanics who have examined the vehicle have scratched their heads and said "...er...some of them do that....!" Should I change the carb? Has anybody else had this problem? How did they cure it? Thanks! John
