Greetingz all, Im new to the Discvery world so bare with me.
I just bought a 1996 Disco SE7 the car is in great condition and im very happy with it. As I was driving the other day the service engine light came on, so I took the car to the nearest service station and had them read it, and to make a long story short there was nothing wrong! and they said only the dealer can turn off the light and the light was just a reminder. So I guess my question is how can I turn off this Damn light.
Thank you,
Chris

this is accually an easy fix. I got this info off of another LR site. I will try to put this in here, since the other site is down or at least I can't reach it right now.

Resetting the Service Engine Light

To reset the emissions warning light on the dash, you need to put a metal pin, approximatly 3/16" in diameter through the hole in the top of the package (ignition must be on). The pin needs to contact the 2 prongs show here, making the connection between them:

(This was done on a 96 SE-7)
Time: 15 minutes
Remove the passenger side kick panel and locate the Emission Maintenance Reminder which is the red box. (See fig.1 & 2)

Fig. 2
Remove the box by lifting upward. With the box removed, either peel back the Land Rover sticker or poke a hole through the sticker with a long rod to reset the reminder.
(Fig. 3)

Installation is the reverse of removal.

The best and easyest way to fix this is to remove the little read box perminantly though.... all it does is remind you ever 86k that you need to go spend $100 at the LR dealer to reset it...

Joey,
Well let me start by thanking you, you fix the problem. I did what you wrote and it worked "Thank God", I gota tell you when that light came on it really killed me, but thanks to you my mind is now at rest. THANK YOU...
As per the job, I just took that box out! maybe i'll throw it in the garbage who knows, for now it's in the glove box, maybe it could be sold on ebay or something.
Again thanks for everything!
