I have a 1997 Discovery SE7 and I am having problems with loss of power. Two months ago I had all the gaskets and seal replaced from a local mechanic to stop oil leaks. I drove the Rover for a few weeks and when I press the gas the valves started tapping and I experienced a loss of power. I took the Rover back to the mechanic and he cleaned up the problem that fixed the D1 for one more week. Last week I drove the D1 and it started smoking from under the hood on the passenger side from the bottom of the engine. I checked my gauges and check under the hood to locate where the smoke was coming from but I could not pin point the exact location. I stop the car and let it cool, after it cooled I started the D1 again and there was no smoke but it had lost a little power with no noise from valves. The codes I am receiving from AutoZone are as follows:
P1316
P0304
P0305
P0300
P0306
P0301

Can anyone help with this problem?

The smoke was probobly some oil that got onto the engine or headers while the mechanic was changing the gaskets. It was burning off. You havent had any more smoke right?

I have not had any more smoke but the mechanic told me I needed a new motor and I didn't want to believe that.

i just had...

I just had an engine replaced in my 97 b/c of a dropped sleeve with leaking coolent and overheating...it's worthwhile to look into it (and get a second opinion). Prior to this high ticket item I had gaskets replaced along with a valve job. Let me know if I can be of any assistance with additional information. Although I have to warn you that I did research which all consisted of the time consuming phone, internet and emails.
