I have a 2000 land rover discovery with 77,000 miles on it. Once I am in 4th gear and I take my foot off the gas it feels like the truck shifts into 3rd gear slowing the vehicle down and once the gas is applied I hear a clunk. I also have a terrible studder at low rpms in 4th gear and when i take my foot off the gas it studders and feels like it downshifts. The vehicle shifts fantastic in all other gears and this studder and downshifting feel only occurs when I am in 4th gear. Any ideas anyone--------Hopefully not a transmission job!

Sounds like two things... one, the torque converter is doing its job, the down shift part. Two, you may have a universal going bad in the drive shaft... the D2's are known for front drive shaft issues do to no greaseable universals and the heat from the Cats.
