In purchasing a used Land rover, or any used vehicle, there is a few helpful hints on what to look for……………………..

1: check for any dash lights that are on, check engine, service engine soon, ABS
etc

2: shove the tops of the tires side to side and get the vehicle rocking , any
clunking noises usually means some kind of issue.

3: check out there service schedule. If the engine oil was just changed, this
means nothing. You want to see a history of oil changes and services.

4: if you can, check all fluids. If all fluids were just changed, be suspicious.

5: look for new parts just recently installed. This is usually a key indicator of
where they had problems.

6: operate all accessories, and in a reasonable harsh manner.

7: check all hoses and wiring. Replaced, or new usually means there is an issue
there.

8: check for bondo, or body work signs, by rapping your knuckles on the body
panels in suspected areas.

9: look hard for new parts, or parts that were serviced or removed. Sockets leave
shiny spots on the hex. Torx leave shiny spots inside fasteners, and so do
socket head cap screws…aka Allen bolts. Look for signs that look
unreasonably clean.

10: Check the color of the residue inside the rear exhaust pipe, this test never
lies.

11: Check acceleration and deceleration, smooth is good, If it is shaky there’s
issues.

12: Most trouble signs occur when driven harsh.

13: The kind of fuel they use and old gas receipts.

14: The type of fluids used.

15: type of wear on the tires, and watch out for the salesman that says, “ We
just put new tires on it too! “ Because the old tires will show the old
problem.

16 People who usually repeat something more than once, was an issue with
them. i.e. “ Since we put the new transmission in it, it sure works great.”
What they’re really telling you is beware of the transmission.

I left this list unfinished for a reason. It’s so everyone else can post there additions to the list to make this the best it can be.

300 people thinking on this is always better than one.

So lets all get involved and finish this list so we can all have a copy of what to look for in buying a new vehicle……. All of us will benefit………
