On a D1 like yours the factory bars are strong enough for a board, but they're pretty flexy, so whatever's up there will bounce around. Plus, you're trusting the board to be held in place by four (or eight) little plastic prongs...I'd get the Thule bars and Thule mounts (they're the tallest ones), or the equivalent Yakima products.

Just get the foamy cylindrical things that go over your board. Mine are made by Da Kine and work great at highway speeds. Just make sure to point your board the correct way :)

Seriously though, unless you want to spend money for the sakes of spending, buy the foamy things with the ties downs.
