Made an appointment for an oil change today for the LR3. Told the rep I wanted to upgrade to full synthetic. The response I got was the LR3 was "not designed" for full synthetic, but rather the synthetic blend. Anybody else ever heard this from LR?

Howdy San6279. Please use the search tool on this forum. This has been asked and answered quite comprehensively in the not too distant past.

Yeah, I've seen most the oil threads. Just didn't know if anyone had actually ever had a dealer go so far as say it was "not designed" for full syn.

FWIW, I changed my oil (at my own cost, of course) at 3500 and put in Mobil 1 5w-30. Now, every time I go to the stealer for the scheduled service, I take along 8 quarts of Mobil 1 and respectfully ask them to use it instead of the Castrol dino oil. I've never had a problem with them doing this and I've never had a problem with the oil.

All oils have ratings and Mobil 1 (and I suppose all other syns) qualify to be used in any Land Rover vehicle. I don't understand why your stealership doesn't know this, but I suspect that they are just being stubborn. Is there another stealer in your area? If so, try them out on your next service.

Sounds to me like they don't carry any thing but the blend and they do not want to be bothered with it.

Thanks for the comments guys. Yeah, in my opinion, this particular guy is a little stubborn, but can't figure out why in this particular case. I mean, I asked for an upgrade to their Castrol full syn, so they would just make money on the deal. And I'm sure they carry full syn because it is used in the Range Rovers. No big deal, I'm going to tell them to put in the full syn when I drop off the car.

Last time I took in my own oil (Mobil full syn). This time I think I'll just use their Castrol and try to save some $.
