Got an oil change with full synthetic and it cost me $175 (plus tax). Last oil change less than 6 months ago was $150. Plus, I asked them about programming my tow stuff because I just added the wiring with a brake controller. They couldn't figure it out and tried calling the LR Help Desk and still couldn't figure it out. Didn't know what I was talking about. Charged me $50 for them trying to find out.

Is this a rip off? Or is it just more, it's a Land Rover stuff?

The oil change seems in the right ballpark to me. Buying just the oil/filter kit from FCPEuro is $130 for my V8, Atlantic British have a kit for the scv6 that is closer to $180. When I was having mine done at the indy shop, it was closer to $200.

As far as paying to setup the tow settings, if they aren't a specialist LR indy shop I'm not surprised they couldn't figure it out. They did spend time on it (and should have made it clear that you'd have to pay for their exploration) so it feels fair they'd be compensated for their time. You might want to find a shop that specializes in LR though, or buy an IID tool and make configuration changes yourself.

Thanks @ftillier. By the way, you really have been on some adventures (looking at you chiming in on previous posts). I was pretty specific in stating that they could skip it if they didn't know how to do it. I just came in for a straight oil change and mentioned they could throw in the programming if it wasn't a big deal (and to quote me first).

I would have to look to be exact, but I believe I'm right around $200 in Denver, so I wouldn't be too concerned about $175.

Sounds expensive compared to what it could be if you did it at home. You can get 10 quarts (2x2.5q jugs) of synthetic oil from Costco for $35. The filter from AB is $30.

This is a standing oil change (filter housing is on top of the engine, vacuum oil from inside filler), so you don't have to crawl under the truck.

That said, you'd need to invest in the vacuum (~$70) and filter socket ($25). All in for self-change #1, $160....so, less than you paid for the last oil change. Subsequent changes are $65.

I don't know...I'm lazy, but I'm also pretty cheap.

I am going to see how the fcpeuro return policy is (and also what shipping costs), but may switch to Costco oil too if I can find the 5w20. If doing 5k OCI, brand of oil doesn't matter as long as it's synthetic?
