What's up everyone!!! I'm likin the forum, used it yesterday to solve the "window up ECU" issue, haha, while it was raining out... anyways, to the point, today i used jumper cables to help some poor lady start her car, a few seconds after turnin my 95 disco on, the tachometer dropped down completely to zero and has yet to work again after a 20 minute drive and shutting it off and turnin it back on. Lemme know what you guys think? It's a 5 speed by the way. THANKS!

battery dying? alternator dying? tach usually falls with alt/battery problems...coulda fried the alt if you did the cable jump wrong i believe...but then your battery would likely die itself, tellin you it was the alt issue...but give it a day or so, if it wont turn over, the alt is prolly the culprit...

so... on the way home tonight and the f-ing thing died on me, got about 12 volts out of the alternator and the battery was reading about 11 until i got a jump from a friend... The fuse is good......... i'm pretty angry at this point in time... the damn thing is a birthday present somewhat and it's failing me 100%... I just wanna know if it's alternator related, or battery related, considering it's putting juice out of the alty and the battery keeps dying, i jumped it and made it a few blocks but that was it, the battery wouldn't even let the thing come up in RPMs....

Your alternator is bad.... change it.

Remember you should get 13.6 - 14.5 volts (IIRC) out of any 12 volt Alternator.

Another question... would changing the pulley size on the alternator do anything special or different? Also, what do you guys know about Roverland Parts? Any experiences wit them??? Thanks

Changing the pulley size will normally just cause issues (either create too much voltage and burn up the regulator - over time - or not create enough voltage and never charge the battery)

Never ordered from Roverland Parts.... The following is a list of places that I have personally ordered from:

www.discountbritishparts.com
www.dap-inc.com
www.atlanticbritish.com
www.roveraccessories.com
www.jet-hot.com
www.summitracing.com
http://www.greatbasinrovers.com/

This is just the list that I have ordered Rover parts from.

hello all, just put in my new used alternator last night... i got it from roverlandparts.com and i'm really impressed, it was super clean, fit right in and looked really good... My belt tensioner was siezed up which made the install alot tougher than it should've been, nothing some elbow grease couldn't handle. Thank you Joey and NHESS81 for the diagnostic help, she's running like a champ now... Tach quits, it's probably your alternator!
