I haven't posted in awhile, but in need of some new tires.

I've read some mixed reviews about the Michelin Syncrones and the Pirelli Scorpions.

I live in Calgary, Canada and winter here seems to last for 6-8 months. (lol...actually it's not that bad)

So I need an all season tire that is fairly good in snow and ice conditions.

The OEM Goodyears were decent in the snow and ice, but quiet and smooth they are not as most of you know.

So if anyone has had any experience with any of these tires, your opinons would be much appreciated.

--------------------

Or I can always buy 22's with the Proxes or Scorpions and buy 19" winters...
but 19" winters might be hard to find for this vehicle...

thanks

From everything I have read, if you thought the stock Goodyear Wranglers were okay in snow, then anything else is going to thrill you with their performance! I have seen the Syncrones off the pavement and they do pretty well, and ride very smoothly, and wear slowly. I think it's a good tire if you are street oriented.

I still swear by the cross terrains as a good replacement for your needs. Haven't looked into sizing for 19" rims though. Much better in occasional snow and way quieter and longer lasting than the HPs. (and cheaper)
Personally, if I was in Calgary, I'd have a set of Nokians and be up at Sunshine or Lake Louise every weekend!

I have a pair on 19" Synchrones. Snow performance is pretty good. This last winter I tried them on a 45-degree, snow covered hill and they almost got me to the top. I'd bet that someone with Terras wouldn't have been able to make it to the top either, though. I've never been stuck in the mud, and I've tried. Their road ride is way superior to Goodyear.

I've used two sets of Pirelli Scorpions and loved them. I have 87000 miles on my vehicle. Great in snow and cold.

I had the Toyo Proxes s/t's on my Range Rover before getting my LR3. They wore really well and were great on the pavement. Having said that, they were trash off road and I repeatedly got it stuck. I would not buy them again for my northern Michigan adventures, let alone Canada.

Just an update...

I ended up getting the Michelin Synchrones. WOW!

What a difference...We can now hear the radio or the DVD while we drive and it drives so much smoother now.

We'll see how it handles in the winter time...

I noticed that the old tires had alot of inner wear, the tires were "pigeon toed". So a wheel alignment had to be done, but they also noticed that the tie rods needed to be replaced as well. At least all that was covered under warranty.

Hope this helps someone out there if they noticed the same problems.

Almost 2yrs old, new tires, lots of replaced parts, software upgrades ...service department problems...

still love the truck though...oh well...

i must say that good year tires suck ass and do not put them on your car, they are known for feathering on the inner tire on land rovers. causing a rotationial rumping noise! it sounds like a worn bearing in the differential. install the michelins you'll be very happy!
