Tranny or gear shift problems

I have a 94 disco, and the problem I am having is that it will not go into gear.. is it the tranny that has the problem or is it the gear Shift... It just will not go into gear at all. Help help..
Also I was told that if I out it on a trailer to haul not to push it in reverse cause it will mess it up..
PLEASE HELP ANYONE. THANKS TO ANYBODYY.

Did this happen all at once or over time? I do not understand the second question, doesn't make any sense.
As for the shifting issue, check and see if you have any brake lights, if not, then your brake switch has failed which will then not allow you to shift.

Thank u very much I will check those things.... In reference to the secomd question... The whole problem is that it will not shift at all... Ohh ok, if I put my vehicle on a trailer to tow, does it matter if I have to pull it from behind to line it up with trailer?? It happened one time

You can not tow it the way it is unless you drop both the drive shafts.
Go check your brakes, if it is the switch, it is a quick fix.
