My 1989 Range Rover 155k is acting weired, when you put it in reverse it moves and suddenly stops as though i slammed it into park, it the release again and will move speed, it's as though the trany is in park and something is holding it, you can feel the rear rise while trying to move backwards and suddenly releases and jerks backward, all forward gears are fine, I thought it was the transfer case. ut after spending 10 hours or so replacing the transfer case it still does the same thing eliminationg the transfer case as the problem. any ideas

Any chance the linkage is out of wack? worse case the transmission needs a rebuild.
