Hi to you all,
I am new to the site and have a problem with my 2002 RR Vogue 4.4 that is driving me crazy.
For nearly a year now there has been a strange knocking noise from the under the front o/s. It is not consistant and does not happen when going over bumps.
When driving over say 10 miles per hour the rumble/knock occurs and happens most of the time whilst driving on the Motorway.
THe car has been in to many RR dealers and they have all diagnosed various things and subsequently replaced the parts.
To date it has had the following replaced : -
Both front Struts
Steering Rack
Shaft-front axle complete
OSF Engine Mount
OSF Arm Assembly
Front Ball Joints
Roll Bar Bushes

The noise is still there, it has not got any louder as the time has gone on. THe car drives perfectly but you can hear the noise above tyre noise and also under your left foot whilst driving. There is no rhythm to it and it doesn't sound like a metal to metal sound, it sounds very much like something loose on suspension but we have checked all suspension parts and they seem fine.

Any ideas please, because I am running out of ideas and so are LR it seems.

Cheers to you all and I hope you have a great weekend

I presume you are not in the USA if you have an 02 with the 4.4.... so I don't think you have CATS in the exhaust... so I don't think that is the issue. If I were to guess I would say you have some rocks lodged in some plastic somewhere.

Hi there

Thanks to you both and our suggestions. I went to another specialist the other day and within five minutes of driving it he thought it could be the front diff. However, back at the workshop they put it on the ramp and eventually made the noise happen. It turned out to be the N/S front wheel bearing.............! When taken apart there was no apparent wear but after replacing it the car is as quiet as a mouse. No more noise. Makes me mad though as car has been to three different main dealers and none of them could identify Wheel Bearing. So much money spent and for it to end up as a cheap bearing. Hay **.

Just thought I would let you know. Thanks for your help.

Cheers

Hi To you both and thank you for your suggestions. The problem is now solved. It turned out to be N/S front wheel bearing. When taken apart there was no real sign that it could be the cause but when replaced the car now is noisless and no more knocking. What makes me mad is that 3 main dealers could not detect it....! Hay **.
Thanks once again.
Cheers
