Want to build my own Roof Rack

I know that I'm a little late to this discussion. I built my own rack. It was not as much about saving money as it was about having something that worked the way that I wanted it to. I wanted something that was modular and versatile. I use it as a lumber rack, as well (short distances only). I designed a box (recovery items) that slides into place and can be easily removed when I'm not going off-road. The same is true of the gas-can holder. I did put a Rhino Rack wind faring on it, which inproved the noise factor significantly.

I'm not saying that everyone should do this but, it worked for me.

This looks amazing. What did it cost you moneywise?

I don't remember exactly but, I'm fairly certain that it was under $200. Some of the metal I bought new, some I had laying around, and the expanded sheet (the waffle stuff) I found on Craigslist) I've had it on there for about five years now. It's been great. I pulled it off once to make some minor mods and to repaint it.
