sensors

Most new rigs have a sensor that when it gets to hot it will **** the engine. To stop it from seasing up. Why is your rig heating up? How hot does it get? Have you tried to change the thermostat? Is your radiator pluged? Are you talking about when your Rover gets to operating temp it dies? What is the pressure of your radiator? Need just a little bit more infor. Your fuel temp sensor could have some thing to due with it killing over sense it controls the opening time of your injectors but first need to know temp situation of your rig. Also need to know year, engine size, D1 ? Have you had your Rover scanned? Most sensors will throw a code or two?

Could be the fuel temp sensor or the TPS (throttle position sensor). or the IAC (Idle Air Control)

My 97 Disco is doing this too and it is also impossible to restart on a hot day after driving locally. Once it sits for a while I can get it going but then it runs real rough and acts like it is starving for fuel.

Doesn't overheat. This is at normal operating temp.

Changed the fuel filter, plugs, wires, fuel temp sensor, new O2 sensors last summer did two Seafoam treatments and it still is doing this.

No codes.

Help! And thanks,

Engine coolant temperature sensor

The engine coolant temperature sensor is located in
the front of the thermostat housing. The sensor
provides engine coolant information to the ECM. The
ECM increases the injector opening time when cold to
provide improved driveability, and reduces the
opening time as the engine reaches normal operating
temperature.

That sounds like the trick. I'll order one and let you know if it fixes the problem. Thanks as usual Joey.

I would say yes, but I would check with Nathan at www.discountbritishparts.com first... I always get better prices via Nathan then the bigger places.

Just for the heck of it I pulled off the connection on the Engine Coolant sensor to see if there was a difference in the behavior of the engine after drivinging for about an hour doing local stuff.

It ran smoothj and strong with no hesitation, no sputtering and no chugging. When I plugged it back in the engine was starving for fuel.

Joey, you diagnosed it exactly. I'll call Nathan and order a new sensor.

Thanks,
