I am going to buy a 2002 Discovery II SD from a good friend of mine who is the second owner. Neither of us are sure what its worth. Carmax offered 7,500 on trade in, and BMW offered 8,000 on trade in. Can yall help me value this car?

KBB private party good condition is 12,850

Stats:
42,300 miles
18 months of CPO warranty remaining.
3 month old tires, basically new.
grill guard and lights are a year old.
body is in excellent shape for its age. like 4 scratches on the whole thing, black plastic trim is fading.
interior is good, it looks like vinyl seating to me, not leather?
headliner is starting to bubble in two locations.
Inspected by a land rover tech:
valve covers leaking a little(tech said no big deal with this car, is it?)
noticed car was repainted but saw no indication of a wreck or body work. tech said that this color had peeling problems and LR may have repainted it. whatever that means.
AC needs repair, dual zone is malfunctioning, one side hot one cold, SHOULD be covered for $100 under CPO. he said possible blend door malfunction.

What would you offer on this truck?

In March I paid $10,500 for a 2000 D2 with 59k miles and no warranty, private sale. $12,850 seems like the right ballpark. Though anything wrong should be fixed prior to sale by the current owner. You will have enough to deal with soon enough... no need to start off with a list:) The warranty is worth it... for that price, it would be hard to find another D2 with a warranty.

Buy it - and enjoy the ride!

That ride is cherry. I'd pay around 12,500 for it in a heartbeat.

50$ to transfer CPO

I spoke to some family friends that sell cars and they said to offer 9,500-10k. I felt that was low. however KBB @ 12,850 seems high to me, considering the market for these trucks and what he was offered trading it in.

I offered $11,500 this morning. I am willing to add 500$ to close the deal if necessary. He is going to get back to me after he figures out exactly what he owes (he is upside down having only owned it for one year)

...he should call you back. That's a good looking truck for sure, and 12K is a healthy offer. I paid 9,600 for a 2000 with 70k. Granted, I'm having my fair share of problems because it really wasn't properly maitained to my tastes. I guess that's part of the Rover romance.

The valve cover issue may not be serious, but that sort of problem doesn't just go away. It will need attention some time at a later date - along with other associated engine issues these trucks are known for as well.

Good luck.
