I'm buying a demo 2005 LR3 w/ the tow package. Does the package include the necessary wiring and the draw bar or just receiver?

There is no real "tow package" -- the name is pretty much a joke. It's just the hitch receiver. You still need to install the electric kit... and, if necessary, install a brake controller. For '06, they eliminated the "tow package."

Grommet, is it possible to install the electrical portion of the tow kit yourself, or is that something that can only be done by the dealer?

You can do it. 30 minutes for me. Or maybe an hour to 90 minutes if you are nervous or very careful. If you aren't comfortable... go ahead and pay the dealer and if they screw something up, it's their fault. Read the install pictogram on the owner site and see if you can handle it.

It is very easy to install the wiring electronics for the LR3. Only "hard" part is having small hands run the wire by the bumper to the out let in the rear light area. Relatively speaking, it is an extremely easy install.

I agree with schafari as it is an easy install. One tight spot if you have big hands. I did mine in under an hour.

Easy install do it your self. I used some tie wire to rout mine. The Stealer wanted too much money for a job that is so simple. Not to highjack but has anyone installed a prodigy brake controller in their lr3?

If a prodigy brake controller can use the fairly generic Ford style connector under the dash, it doesn't really require much installation.

An E-mail from my files:
I have gathered the following information in regards to installation of a trailer brake in an LR3.
1. Install Land Rover factory trailer wiring harness available thru the Parts Department (plug in back of vehicle).
·2. Purchase the following 2 items from a local supplier.
· Trailer brake wiring harness (late Ford truck) part # 3035-P (Tekonsha)
· Trailer brake controller part # 90185 (Prodigy)
·

All LR3’s come standard with the trailer brake wiring (not the plug in the back of the vehicle). The plug is located to the right of the steering column and with the above 2 parts it is a plug in installation plus mounting of the brake controller. Other brake controllers can be used but it would require splicing wires into the existing harness.

We've done this before w/ no issues.
