Yep, option 2 slims would be a good thing to look into. I have the regular option 2's
and have had to modify them so they don't stick out so far.

Your opinion is highly valued as I've not had a chance to run with anyone with sliders and you have experience in the place I'll do 90% of my off-roading. My thought on the stage II was that I could have a little bit of a comfort zone when getting close to a rock wall. Does that sound unreasonable?

I originally wanted stage I's because of the stealth look...

It is not unreasonable and both options are great but anytime I was ever to close to a rock wall the option II would not have mattered as I was usually on an angle.

You probably have seen this video before of our trip to John Bull trail. Two of us LR3s had option I and one (Adam of off roving ) had option II.

You can see a couple of shots where the extra clearance came in handy. One shot at 32 seconds is a good example.

Option II would not have mattered here either:

or here:

In fact on this trip an LR3 with option II did get wedged in between 2 rocks that the option I's did not.

OK I think you've swayed me to the Option I's. Thanks a lot for the quick feedback! Oh and let me know if you'd ever like to try dishpan springs. I had to turn around at the waterfall this weekend. That's why I'm out to invest in underbody protection today!

LOL, wasn't trying to sway you just showing the options. Either way you will be pleased. A couple of us from the club did Dishpan and John Bull a couple months ago. I forgot my camera so my friend had his here.

Dishpan is rather short and not really all that hard, just one section really that you have to be very careful on where you turned around. Were you going up or down? John Bull was much more of a challenge and 3 times longer. We were able to do both in one run as we had a small quick moving group.

Experience is always welcomed...

This right here was the part I got stuck on on Dishpan: http://landroving.shutterfly.com/331 , We were going up. That rock on the left looked like it REALLY wanted to have some of my door paint on it. Slid around a bit and kept high centering so I didn't really have a way up other than to gun it, which I'm never fond of.

I plan on doing those two trails as soon as I get this stuff put on.

Yes it was pretty tight right there. Good finesse was key to thread that area. With the L3 there is really no need for gunning if in rock crawl. Let the wheels spin a second and the traction control will kick in. A good example is at 2:48 in the john bull video.

Also don't forget about super extended height which you can force if needed.

I just couldn't hook up being high centered. I have Cooper Zeon's at 23PSI and they would just spin and never take me up. I think the suspension might have needed a reset, your pic doesn't look anywhere close to bottomed out.

Does that vehicle have the rod mod maybe?

No rods either of us. But we do force super extended sometimes when getting high centered.

I tried that by lowering the suspension when high centered hoping it would pop up. I think all that did for me was lower it down a bit. As soon as I backed off that rock it rose up a good 3". At that point I had tried for an hour and just decided not to try anymore.

It has to be a pretty solid grounding to work, sometimes it takes a little moving around to get it in the right spot. My friend in the dark Lr3 uses a precut 4x4 and I keep a bottle jack handy to invoke it if I have to.
