"Why" is a good question. I still ask myself that question - usually "after another thousand dollar oil change - well this time it was fifteen hundred - just routine maintenance stuff - nothing actually wrong.
The best answers I have are:
a) the radio - it is like bringing the Boston Pops along in the back seat. For Heavy Metal it is not the best, but for real music, wow!
b) the solid body - only the Mercedes G Wagon is more solid. The G Wagon doors sound vault like, the 3, almost.
c) the air suspension - yes, it has its troubles but it does have some positives, so much so that Jeep is experimenting with it now. The low entry level really does have value both for loading stuff in the rear and for older people - perhaps Grandma.
d) the Xenon projector headlights - if you have them, you will not want to ever go back to mere halogen - more because of the improved pattern rather than colour - blue is bad and that is why the LR has the 4300K colour.
e) the second row of seats - passengers actually like riding back there - they feel special. I think this is because of the raised seating position and the second sun roof - just feels good.
f) the cargo area - I think one can get bigger stuff in there than you can in a Tahoe - something to do with the rectangular shape of the rear hatch vs the rounded corners of the Tahoe. The Tahoe should carry more but you cannot get it in; also the folded down seats take up more space.
g) stability - the stability/anti skid program combined with full time all wheel drive is a pretty good combination. Stats show that LR has the fewest single vehicle accidents of any, a polite way of saying owners do not tend to unintentionally drive them off the road. Actually that was one reason I do recall as to why I purchased it - to remain on the road - off road and upside down is too common in this part of the arctic - a daily concern in the winter.
Well that is about all I can think of right now - but the idea is that you really have to want one as to keep it going, it take either money or dedication - well, maybe both.
