On a recent trip to NYC, we drove thru a really strong storm when exiting Georgia into Tennessee...very strong winds and driving rain (man how I love those automatic wipers when passing semi's). The storm was so strong it ripped my left A-pillar cover totally loose, and the right one loose at the top. My wife used Siri to find an Autozone, so we got off in southern Chattanooga...not a move I would suggest during the evening hours. Crazy...but that is another story altogether.
No parts stores open, but fortunately the convenience store did sell duct tape. The storm had broke the top flange and pulled the 3 fasteners out on the left one. Then only thing that kept me from losing it was the bonnet/hood. The storm had just popped the top 2 fasteners out of the pillar on the right side. A bit of frantic drying, trying not to get hit by driving drunks &/or **** addicts...or shot (really), and I had both sides well taped down. All held well thru the remaining rain until we stopped in Knoxville for the evening. Next morning, re-taped and off we went. The duct tape held until we returned to San Antonio several days later. My wife said we looked like the Beverly Hillbilly's rolling into NYC with a duct tape on both sides of the windshield. At least it was black duct tape. ;-)
Anyway, once home I removed the mess and cleaned off the sticky goo. Then if first gorilla super-glued, then epoxied the clip holders into place. Then visited the dealer to purchase new clips...which were different than what I had. The guys I know in parts said the clips are probably the most common item they sell...stating that they are always replacing the clips, even on the new LRs. So far, so good.
