Just a bucket of water with some car shampoo and a few rags, took 15 minutes. I also used my air compressor to blow out dirt from the engine bay before I started, I work out in the oil fields in West Texas and the dust storms tend to keep the engine bay pretty dirty
Coat any elcetronics with ACF-50. It's a corrosion inhibitor and also waterproofs. I've used it on a circuit board (not from the rover) and completely submerged it water while in use - no problem. The protective coating is somewhat oily, but onecs you wipe the excess it's not bad.
I've used it on almost every electrical connection outside the vehicle as a preventative measure.
