I have a 05 LR3. Has anybody had problems with rear tailgate opening? I can hear the locking mechanism being triggered but when I push the latch button it does not open. Seems like there ought to be some way to open the back from inside in case of an emergency. Anybody had experience with this?

I've had my '05 HSE since new and now at 110k miles. I had one occasion recently where the relay for the tailgate started lock/unlocking rhythmically even though the gate was closed. I ended up checking the latches on either side and the lock itself, clearing out the accumulated dust/grease gunk and relubbed. Problem solved. Not sure if it matches your problem but worthwhile maintenance just in case.

Update: Well, eventually the rear gate locked and wouldn't open. In my case it was the actual release switch that failed and it had to be replaced. In checking generally about this it appears that there is a well known issue as well with the cable/solenoid inside the tail gate failing at some point as well which requires some tough work cutting in to the tail gate from inside to get to it and fix. Luckily mine was a simple outside switch problem.

I'm nearing 90k miles on my 2005. It has not had a transmission flush or differential flush yet. I haven't noticed much in transmission shifts or noise, but I can hear a very faint winding sound when I accelerate. Is this normal as the truck is full-time 4x4? It's hard to hear the noise and can't unless you actually find it.

I'm a month into my LR3 ownership and have had my share of repairs already. Luckily, my dealership, CarMax, offers a 30-Day warranty so my out-of-pocket has been $0 for the following:

Problem: Parking Sensors F/R didn't work. No audio and the console button wouldn't light up.
Repair: Parking Aid Module replaced.

Problem: Harsh downshift. The car would lurch forward when accelerating from an almost stop. I could catch the transmission shifting from 2nd to 1st, resulting whiplash for all passengers.
Repair: ECU's updated.

Problem: HDC Suspension Fault. This error message would show up within 10-seconds to 10-minutes of driving the car.
Fix: New battery installed.

Problem: Front suspension clunk. Felt in the steering column when turning into a driveway or going over a speedbump.
Fix: Lower control arm bushings replaced. Alignment included.

Problem: Iound a small tear on the passenger rear tire.
Fix: New tire installed.

Problem: Suspension Fault Normal Height Only. I could hear the compressor running for few minutes. The sound would stop and the error message would pop up.
Fix: New compressor installed.

Problem: Coolant leak. This was discovered when they replaced the battery.
Fix: Thermostat housing replaced

I suppose CarMax doesn't like working on this car because they send my car to an indy for the repairs. If this happened post 30-days, I would have been out $150 only because I also have the 72/mo 100k extended warranty.

Is that all? That's hardly worth bringing up.

Welcome to the fold. It's best to maintain a warranty with good coverage, at least until you're done making payments. I hear these things last almost that long.

Just before a trip to Oregon from Texas this summer pulling a travel trailer, our decided to dump it's front diff, but dealer fixed it quick and it's fine now. No issues on the trip (+5k miles, other than the occasional near-overheat), but it was asking for more attention on return. I mostly humor my wife's love of the Rovers, and she coerces me to fix it every time she doesn't want the dealer mucking about with it.

I'd be willing to bet sunroof drain tubes are coming up soon. It's like 2005 all over again. Was your truck EVER serviced? These things should NOT be unresolved at this point in time. LRNA fixed all them.

Also, it sounds like you need your alignment redone.

According to the Carfax, this vehicle has always been serviced at a LR dealer and that's a big reason why I bought it. *shrug* I'd think the ecu upgrades would have been done, at least. The alignment was done after the bushing install and it drives straight as an arrow. Time for an update:

Problem: Satellite radio not working correctly. Sirius tech support said I need to change the channel to 184 in order for the Activation Signal to start the service. However, my sat radio is stuck on channel 034; I can't change the channel no matter what I do. I can manually enter the channel but it goes back to 034. I can use the arrows to scan to 184 but it flips back to 034.
Fix: I'm saving this one for my next repair trip.

Would anyone buy a 1 owner LR3 (2005-2007) where the CarFax says it has been regularly serviced at a LR dealer but where the dealer doesn't have the service records.

Parking Brake died

After 5.5yrs of continuos use, the electronic parking brake died. when I set it is sounded like a baby seal was getting the club. Had to use the "incase of emergency" cable, worked like a champ. The brand new one the dealer put in after 5 hours failed also so they had to get another. Not bad. I only have 50K on the odometer.
