Windshield and Rain Sensor

Hi all, I’ve been trying to diagnose a fault on my 2010 HSE that reports the Rain Sensor as failed.

• B10AD-09 (2F) Rain sensor - General failure information - component failure
  ( on 30-04-2018 11:56:29 at 81545 mi )
  - Test Failed
  - Test Failed This Monitoring Cycle
  - Confirmed
  - Test Failed Since Last Clear

I purchased a new sensor and the problem still persists. I called the dealer and they asked me if I have a replacement aftermarket windshield. I do!

What happens is that when I turn the switch to Auto for Rain sending, the wipers act as if they are set on low intermittent setting. Even when it does not rain they wipe.

My question for you guys is, does anyone of you have a third party windshield and if you have such a problem? Is your Auto setting working?

I noticed my windshield has the defrost fine wires going across the rain sensor line of vision.
Can anyone of you that has the original windshield check to see if this is the case on yours?
I’m wondering if that could make the wipers stay on all the time.

To my knowledge, the only "aftermarket" windshield that has the defrost elements is the Pilkington windshield, which I believe is the supplier for Land Rover OEM.

It is most likely your windshield.
I had the exact same problem with the same windshield. You can see in THIS thread that my old FY part number was the same and my rain sensor did NOT work with that windshield. It was a CarMax replacement and it did have the heater wires in it and all.

I finally got a new OEM Pilkington put in, and the problem when away.

The FY brand is of far east origin per below and it also lacks an E marking.

I specify the Pilkington windscreen whenever I replace my LR3 heated windscreen. It is the LR factory supplier and the only difference is the price, (lower), plus the Pilkington trademark is imprinted in the lower left corner of the glass rather than the LR trademark.

Has anyone used non-OEM Pilkington windshield without Rain Sensor issues?

The non OEM referred to above, yes one can see thru it, (that is what the AS1 marking means), but if you need the heated windscreen, then you want the Pilkington.

There is a reason the Pilkington Opticool costs more - this is not a situation where you get something for nothing.

The E1 in the Pilkington logo means the windscreen is good enough for vehicles in Germany but note the E1 is missing from the non OEM marking.

The DOT 682 means the windscreen was made in the Pilkington UK glass factory per below.

I have the exact same problem after saving money on a windshield. XYG is the manufacturer. I was told everything would work as before, but I lost my favorite capability - rain sensing.
