They just need to recreate the D4 with a choice of diesels & the ZF 8-speed 'box. Then call it
"The all-new Defender". Nobody is buying the current Disco here in Australia & the dealers
are all panicking, offering improved warranty deals & 5 years free servicing.
No serious off-road driver here can even imagine the current Disco crossing The Simpson
Desert. You can't even buy a bull-bar for it & no long range tank manufacturers are being asked
for such an item. I'm almost surprised that Compomotive have now produced an 18" wheel for it.

Hopefully LR will wake up from the urban-inspired haze and rediscover their niche.
Not holding breath.

My local Land Rover dealer had its annual off-road event this past Saturday. The agenda involves meeting in the service area of the dealership before driving around an hour south to an off-road park.

In the service bay of the dealership was a pretty pristine (and modified) mid-80's gray market D90. The Land Rover service manager told me that the Mercedes service manager had just bought it and had the Land Rover service department throw on a few more modifications. It definitely stood out apart from all the other Land Rover vehicles in the service bay, including a few LR4s.

That said, sitting inside also reminded me why I can never own a D90. I'm 6'5" tall. My left leg was firmly wedged between the steering wheel and the door, my right leg was firmly wedged between the steering wheel and the center dash, and my knees were firmly wedged in my *******. I last sat in a NAS 95 convertible, and I recall it being a lot the same.

There are some spy shots out there. Looks like a stubby version of a RR Sport and that soft feminine look; taillights look near identical - ugh.

I was really hoping for a more rugged-looking successor to the super feminine, ultra-soft looking Discovery. Why did they do that to the new Disco?! That rear end looks so disproportionate. Like a high @ss. Every person I've met who has seen it, dislikes it (some are LR4 owners, some are non-LR customers). Where can I put a rear ladder, a bumper guard, and other awesome off-road functional accessories on that thing? Maybe the Discovery 6 will square out those roundish edges and show some sort of bloodline to the LR4s of yore. This brand feels like it is getting diluted. I wonder what the sales numbers are for the new Disco. This might be a bad comparison or a poor argument for maintaining some sort of design heritage but look at how the Mercedes G wagon has fared - their new 2019 model is near identical in shape to the outgoing model of a 28 year run yet everything except for apparently the door handles is completely new. That means Mercedes kept with the heritage yet made it substantially improved...so it CAN be done.

Guess I'll hold on to the LR4 until the Disco 6 comes out - I'm not complaining. Maybe this is the equivalent of BMW's Bangle Bungle Butt Years.

By the way, I like the new RR though, just wished there was some sort of off-road individuality us owners can apply to these newer roundish vehicles, again with functional accessories. There's just no aesthetic installation to be had on these bulbous front and rear ends.

End of rant.

Ahh, so they put stock RR/S and Disco parts on this thing and only testing out the sub-body parts that we cannot see? If that is the case, why did they take the time to heavily camouflage this test mule <shrugs>

Who knows. But you can see the rear door is just a skin literally glued onto the outside of the car.

They are trying to keep it very much underwraps. Remember the chinese evoque? They are trying to prevent that I think. What I truly believe happened though...is that they had a design and sometime around last summer they new they screwed up and retooled it.... who knows though.
