So I replaced my coolant cross over pipe today under the manifold. Hooked everything up. Took it on the street I live on. No leaks, it just says it's running hot. And shows a high temp.

1. Air pocket?

2. Thermostat?

3. Or something else.

I think there's a bleeder valve on top of the reserve tank but I've never done it. From what i poked around and found it sounds like trapped air is a complete pain in these systems and hard to eradicate.

Did you bleed the system? That's probably the source .

That has to be it.

It can be a PITA to fully drain it and fully purge it. The key thing to remember is to start the engine to get the thermostat to allow coolant into the engine. Otherwise it will look like you filled it up but you are missing a lot of coolant.

I'm sure you all know this, but just in case:

Even then, when I did my wife's Mini, the must have still been some air trapped because for several days after driving I would see the coolant level drop a little and had to top it off.

I believe there is also an air purge one of the hoses.

She is up and running. Trapped air was the fix. Also ran a can of sea foam through her to make her feel good about her new plastic she gets to work on destroying.

The two rings beside it, is where it broke.

Exactly like mine. Clearly a product defect. I would go so far to say replace this pipe ANYTIME the manifold is off for any reason.

Is there not an updated version that solves the problem? Porsche had a fit of insanity and speced plastic cross over pipes on cayennes initially but then when they failed the replacement parts are metal and seem to have put a stop to the failure for good. I'd have hoped that rover would do something similar. If not maybe an adtermaafte supplier could fill the void.
