There definitely is an update available. Don't bother going through the dealership. Just order it directly and do it yourself if you have a place to leave the vehicle running or on a tender for two hours.

No, 2011 will need a dealer to connect to the network and update.
The latest update that I am familiar with on that version of the nav is v20131101.
There was supposed to be one last revision after that one but I am not sure if it ever came to market.

So I asked my dealer about doing a nav update and they tell me there is no update right now. Did I not ask the question correctly or did she just not know anything???

From 2006 to up until now, in my 12 years of experience in dealing with the Land Rover dealerships, in supposedly major markets, in various states, and cities, and now charging up to about a $198/hour, they have just absolutely no idea and zero clue about most and many, many things, simple or complex.

Very often, I have found their service advisors and sometimes even their mechanics and technicians to be quoting and stating the wrong things.

I mean, really, how many models do they really have to be efficient, well-trained, and well-informed about? Lets see, back in 2006, it was only three models lineup. Now, maybe 5 models? Right?

And exact same goes for the sales staff.

I mean, its just ridiculous. If all I did, literally on a daily basis, was selling or servicing only five models (ok, throw in some jag models in there too, big deal), I'd make it my mission to know everything that there was to know about those cars, inside and out, from a single and an inch long trim piece to the firmware version number of a electronic module. I may not have remembered every thing at a moment' notice, but before opening my mouth with a final verdict in front of an owner, I would have certainly made sure to do my proper research.

Land Rover/Tata seriously needs to look into this. I was, and still am, that new customer that Gerry McGovern speaks of and uses as his scapegoat when he tries to preemptively defend the new Defender' redesign (if, there is even any "design" involved in the process there, that is) as well as that ridiculous styling of his D5.

The only reason I have kept my business with LR up until now is because with LR3/4 they once created a product that blew everything else out of the water in refinement and capability at the same time.

If it weren't for the extremely well-designed and engineered LR3/4, I would not have put up with the dealerships' nonsense and would have taken my business to a different automaker long ago, which, given the direction TATA is forcing LR to take by the way, seems like I may have to do just that when the time comes for the next purchase.

Why doesn't MSFT and AAPL give away their software for free? There are many businesses that do this and others that make it part of the ownership. On my E63 I have "three free updates" but I am sure it is baked into the price of the vehicle. On my X5M I have free map updates OTR through BMW and their system but both used to charge for updates. I believe the most expensive was Audi when I wanted an update it was $399 for the software and $2hrs labor for it to sit in a bay connected to GeKo network to update. They wound up doing it as a courtesy and did not charge but I felt that was absurd to even ask that amount.

Re: other thread. LOL There's why you have no business commenting on the power availability in lr3's..... your view is highly skewed rolling around with those beast motors. ;)

Hahaha... True but I am speaking in relation to the vehicle itself (along with it's size and weight) not compared to other one's that have a completely different objective and purpose. I don't want to derail the thread but a motor that was initially intended for a sedan that was half the weight of the LR3 has no business being in an LR3. IMO.

For any and all who miss or prefer the British accent found on the older LR/RR vehicles through their navigation I have found a way to enable it. While browsing the data files I found that they are all there just not enabled. If you set your navigation and cluster for GB/UK then perform a map update the voice files loaded will be the British not the standard robotic NAR voice. The only "downside" is spelling is in the traditional UK format. For example initializing would be "initialising" and so forth but small trade-off for the smoother and nicer guidance voice over.
Do you set it for GB/UK at time of update? I went into the current settings and do not see the English GB/UK as an option. I should receive the USB in a day or two for my update. Thanks again.

It bums me out that it requires an expensive nav update to re-enable a feature (the female Brit voice) that should be baked in to every single Land Rover for perpetuity. Not that I even rely on the onboard nav anymore, but it's nice to know it's there, and delivered in the Queen's English.

No beforehand. Make sure the cluster is set to UK/GB along with the "system" in the head unit before any updates are completed.

I agree. Every other Marque allows for changing per desired option but LR being true to their persnickety and peculiar methods does not allow it. I also prefer the previous navigation system without the TMC and truncated information over the newer stuff 12+ received. It is slow, cluttered and the colorway in night mode is horrendous.

Just use a cell phone ap. Waze in the city gives real time re-routing depending on traffic and off road you can get great GPS programs (Currently use Avenzia or Moto-X) and download awesome topographic overlay maps. I haven't used my 2010 Nav for many years now and don't miss it.

You can also adjust the nav voice to Queen's English lol.
