I don't hate it.

It doesn't look like something that will inspire me to ditch my 4 and run out and buy one though. To my eye, it actually still looks like it could have been the LR5.

It is definitely not earth shaking stylistically, at least.

I don’t hate it either, and I certainly won’t buy one new off the lot. But after my LR4 goes and I grieve that loss. And after the Defender has been driven a couple years as a pavement princess, I’d give it a go.

Kind of need to see it from a few more angles and in a few more colors before pronouncing final judgement. I don’t hate it from the pic but I’m in the camp of “wants an upgraded LR4’ more than the camp of ‘wants a Defender like the old one’.

I’m in the same boat as Scott - it could be the eventual replacement for my much loved ‘12 LR4, in time. I disliked my ‘15 LR4 so much that I have already dumped that - could not even wait for the Defender [emoji12]

Let’s not forget this was a sneak shot from a movie set. Who knows if it’s been modded for the movie or not...

I'm surprised I actually kind of like it. It's easily the best thing Gerry McGovern has ever done at Land Rover at least. Definitely need to see it from other angles.
And that diamond plate looks like a decal to me.

I might give it a few years, but more out of concern of the reliability of that new engine. The 5.0 / SCV6 aren't the most trouble-free in the world, but we at least pretty much know what we've got at this point.

Of course, as I say this, good, low mileage, used Td6 L405s are getting down there in price, and I don't really off-road so much anymore as I do mountain bike.

First world problems.

This is the first OFFICIAL picture of the new Defender, and it lines up with the picture from Instagram

I still don't fully understand the front of this thing. Seems like they could have easily put on a front grille that looked very Defender-esque, but instead they put he thin slat and had it bulge out below. Perhaps that might be some enterprising company's aftermarket option.
