hey folks.. i've seen LR4s pictured with a snorkel. but is it even worth it or possible given the dual air intakes?

wouldn't you have to block the driver side intake?

if so, what does that do to overall engine cooling and performance?

or am i missing something?

Ya, no.. you can't block half the engines air intake... for hopefully obvious reasons.

I don't know if its possible to add any type of dust filtering in the intakes without messing with the flow sensors too much, the engine is picky about that.

As for water, you don't want water over your hood for long anyway (other than a splash from a bow wave). The control units behind the main battery don't do well with water, transfer case module by the brake booster, etc. Generally want to keep water out of your hood cowl area... must past rain and things get risky fast.

These rigs do pretty well with water though if you keep a bow wave and keep it below the hood.

If someone would figure out how to run a driver's side snorkel, I would run two on my rig; looks be damned.

Somebody figure out how to 3d print a mirror image of the existing snorkel to work on the driver's side...

With the lift/tires I'm running, my air intakes are right at 38ish inches off the ground IIRC, and I have had it in water up to that level on multiple occasions for extended periods of time without issue. Tropical storms and hurricanes on the gulf coast provide that opportunity with some regularity. I've been close enough to that edge that I have cruised along with half my body hanging out of the driver's window to make sure I kept the waterflow out of the intake.

As a side note, the diff breathers on these work. Drained the fluids after my first experience like that and the fluid still looked great.

My ARB Summit bar makes great bow waves, probably better than stock because of the nice angles up front.

Not sure everyone is up to speed on that. I recently bought a set of black side grilles from eBay. Obviously a reproduction. The left side was open in back (as it should be); the right side was completely sealed so that air could not flow. Took quite a lot of arguing with the seller to get them to take it back.

My Australian 3.0 diesel model has a drivers side air intake and thus a drivers side snorkel is available.

Lol.

Your driver's side is our passenger side, isn't it?

I should have said left side.
Lol. I’m sorry I forgot that part. But hey, there is a drivers side snorkel available, you just need to move countries and buy a new car. Might be cheaper to get a custom made one!
