Well, as I posted here 10 months ago, I ended up buying an extended service plan as my wife's 2015 LUX was coming off warranty at with 33k miles. I paid $4k for the warranty begrudgingly after telling my wife to go find a replacement vehicle and I don't care about the price.

After an exhaustive search, she wanted to keep the LR4. That was after test driving everything out there including Lexus, MB, etc. Oh, we passed on the new Discovery as it was just not even an option.

Well my, ROI meter just got $1795 back when the dealer told me the lower control arm bushings were bad. Fully covered at 40k miles. I stil have 3 years and 35k miles left on the warranty so good chance I get it all back.

The sad state is that they were bad probably at 30k miles. I noticed it was a bit tipsy on curves. I don't drive it that much so thought, maybe it's just the way it is. After the repair, it was literally back to how I remember when we drove it home from Cali up the PCH. My wife loves this car, but wow, I am going to be hard pressed to consider the brand again when the extended service plan is up.

OK but if you had no warranty you could have had theses addressed for half the price at a good indy. Or for 30% if you turn the wrenches yourself.

Then I would have no coverage for the next three years. I didn't buy the extended plan hopping that I'd get my money back, much the same way I don't buy house insurance hoping the place will catch fire. I bought it just in case there is a big failure item, I don't have to shell out $10k or even $15k for repairs.

Honestly, it was much better than putting your money on black or red at the roulette table. The quality if not optimal, so I felt like my insurance policy was going to be half the price I paid for it with repair costs deducted, so I was really thinking $2,000 for four years of peace of mind? That's like $40 a month. Well, here i am, one year in and I've almost hit the half way point.

Just something additional info for other. And, BTW, this vehicle has never been offroad. It's my wife's vehicle. Garaged and pampered.

It's a good idea as you are right things can pop up. Beware the pampered thing though as I find the brakes get the odd vibration if driven too softly all the time. Good to work the old girl a bit with some hard acceleration and braking once in awhile. Then again perhaps your wife has a lead foot and she wrings it out on occasion?

The brakes is the one thing I do myself. They are so easy. I've done it twice already. I've got power tools and a floor jack so I've got it down to a little over an hour for pad replacements. Still running on the same sensors as i've got to them before they've worn through. Maybe a little meat left on the bone by doing it that way but haven't had to deal with the sensor replacement so worth it.

Yeah, I am from the same school on putting the foot into it every once in a while. So, probably once a month I will take it for a spin and get the r's up. Love the vehicle. Wish the quality was such that I could just keep this rig not worry about it with my wife and kids. We have two years left with it as we'll sell it with a year left on the extended plan. Bummer to think we'll have to drive a Expedition just to get a decent 3rd row, but looking like that's the case.

Honestly if you are DIY the brakes I would just short circuit the sensors and fugedaboutit.

Just before my LR4 went off factory warranty I went to my dealer and asked the service manager (who I've known for 20 years) for advice on "what's going to go wrong soon"! He told me he would replace my lower control arms and front rotors under factory warranty if I complained about a "problem". I did and they did their part. They also replaced my batteries in the key fobs and adjusted my rear hatch locks. Now I'm under a four year, 70K mile extended warranty program with a $300 deductible that I hope I won't need. Unlike most people, I like my Dealership!

Your dealer fraudulently replaced parts under a warranty and you were complicit in the scam. YMMV.

ktm525 it seems like a "fraudulent" claim, but the shop foreman drove my vehicle before doing any "warranty work" and said that my rotors were warped and my lower control arms had a knock even though I hadn't really noticed it myself. But if they said so, fine by me.
