Hey LB BILL - sorry for the time warp on responding. Work, covid, all kinds of crazy...

The tent I bought was a Yakima 3 person tent. Just use it for my wife and me, but gives us plenty of room inside to move around. We bought it at REI for about $1,000, with the knowledge that we had a year to return it if we didn't like it. That was 5 years ago!

Most folks buy the heavier fabric/tougher Tepui or other tent, but I liked the slightly lighter weight for putting the thing on the roof. Weighs about 120 lbs, so not light, but two guys can put it on and off no problem. Has a ladder you flip down and the thing opens like a clamshell, ready to use immediately if you take the rain fly off (the grey fabric in my picture).

As positive as it has been we are thinking of going with a beefy travel trailer. The tent is fine, but the need to close it all up before you can leave camp is kind of a hassle. When we go offroading we have to take the pillows/comforter out of the tent and then they are just piled up in the back of the truck all day. Again, compared to camping on the ground I love it, but if you spend the day running around like we do then you are doing a lot of opening and closing. Just something to be aware of.

The rack is frontrunner, and you have to buy a riser for 2 extra cross pieces. The Yakima system does NOT fit the front runner cross pieces, so you end up having to loosen bolts and really work to get the clamps over the cross pieces. Again, not the end of the world, but something to be aware of. All in all we have enjoyed it, and now my wife is ready to do more offroading, so that is a HUGE score!!

Tires are Wrangler Duratracs. My second set. I have 138,000 on the truck. It had conti's or some other horrible looking "mall crawler" tire on it when I bought it. I came from a Hummer H2 and figured I would buy a rugged AT or MT tire like I had on the Hummer. Ooops! I wish I could get a heavy duty tire, and have considered the new 255/65/19 Duratracs (32.05") just to get a larger/more sidewall tire, but I"m not sure I want the hassle of adding the SYA bumpstops and raising the ride height.

The ONE thing I really wish these trucks had was more wheel well space and and an 18" wheel! Talk about Jeep envy when I see all those rugged MT tires! I've thought many times of buying the steelies from Lucky8, but in the end I don't want to have to spend that much just to get more tire options. I think this was a big mistake on LR's part. The idea that you would put a wheel on this truck that only has 2 or 3 decently rugged offroad tire options is terrible. I hope they fired the guy or gal who thought that was a great idea!

Sorry again for the delayed response to the thread.

Perhaps this post should be on the “Introductions” section but hopefully it will fit here. This is my very first post.

Been day dreaming with a Disco since the Disco 1 and finally got mine. Been mine for a week now and has a little bit less than 45 thousands kilometers. Bout it used of course.

Anyway, my show off... lol

Looking good which roof box is that? Im needing one for all the extra child stuff I need to car around.

It’s the Thule Force XT sport - I believe it’s the smallest one in that line. I choose that particular seize, so I could mount my Kayak on the other side
