First thing is I know this is not a long term fix, I just need a few months until I can flush fluids, install new filter and a zip kit, but…..

LR4 146k miles on original fluids. Standard 2k rpm fluctuation and a shudder in the transmission on slow acceleration up to about 40mph.

I just used two units of Instant Shudder Fix and instantly my RPM fluctuation and transmission shudder are gone. I read a lot of posts on other vehicles of the success rate and the theory that if the product works longer term your issues are probably fluid related not mechanical. Remains to be seen.

I purchased at Napa for about $14 each.

This was a parking lot job, I didn’t want to open the fill port and risk dumping fluid and I’m not sitting under it while running without jack stands. I unhooked the transmission line up by the radiator and injected it into the line in about 10 min.

I purchased 1/2” I’d tubing and a 3/8 x 1/4 barb fitting, two hose clamps as well as two 60cc syringes and some harbor freight line clamps. At 2oz each I was able to dump the product into the syringes and have them ready.

My transmission shudder and RPM fluctuation are both fully resolved for the time being. Will report back.

Steps:

- Remove the small front skid plate by removing the main skid plate front 13mm bolts and two 10mm bolts.

- Assemble the fitting contraption

-Apply a line clamp to the passenger side transmission line (you may not need to do this but I was in a parking lot on 4th of July I didn’t want to risk losing fluid)

- Load the fluid into the syringes

- Inset the plug into the fitting contraption (could have used my finger) and quickly remove the line and install the contraption. I lost a few drops of fluid.

- Inject the fluid slowly and repeat plugging the line in between.

- Remove the contraption and quickly reinstall the line (lost a few drops)

- Remove the clamp

- Start and ensure no leaks

- Reinstall the skid plate

I used 80% of one 2oz tube and it worked in mine too. fixed bad shuttering part throttle in lower gears, couple hundred rpm drops in top gear. Its been a couple of weeks and no issues so far. Still planning on doing a trans service this winter as its due.

I second this, Lubeguard got rid of hesitation and weird shifts for me until I could do the zipkit and two transmissions fluid changes (you can't get everything out of the torque converter). I also added lubeguard into the final change. Transmission has been back to normal for almost 20k miles. The fluid was absolute trash at 100k, this is probably an every 50k change item.

BTW if you open the trans fill when the engine is running cold nothing should come out and you can add the lubegard.

Having the same shudder in my new-to-me LR4 with 124k-miles. Transmission was replaced by previous owner in 2021 (20k-miles ago) and I am on the fence whether or not to just replace the Torque Converter or do a ZF Fluid Exchange with conditioner. Guessing maybe I should try this stuff first.

Very encouraging! I need to do this as well but it’s good to know what I was experiencing isn’t super uncommon. Thought I was going crazy.

I am planning on removing 120-ml of ATF through the trans fill port when cold, then inject 120-ml (2 Instant Shudder Fix - Lube Gard), then reset adaptation with the IID Tool and see how it does.

IMO I wouldnt even bother trying to remove fluid. You've got a couple of quarts of fluid thats going to try and come out on a cold non running transmission. I didnt even use a full single tube and it stopped all shuttering symptoms on mine. I jacked up passenger side after a drive so that the trans was hot, loosened fill plug, started it, removed fill plug and used a filler syringe tool to push in the lube gard. Only had a few drips of trans fluid. Tightened fill plug, dropped the truck and took it for a test drive. Results were immediate.

Based on what I've read on the fill procedure when doing a trans service. You can only fill so much on a cold transmission. To fully fill it when doing the service you must run the vehicle until it hits a specific warm temp, then you can add the remaining fluid until you get a drip per second or something like that. I'm sure those who have done the service themselves can tell you in more detail. I'll get to experience it this winter when I do mine.
