Thanks
@f1racer328 !
Funny enough, and you can't make this up, Dave on his Youtube channel Dave's Auto, just released yesterday before I posted (in what looks like some sort of paid advertisement), another oil analysis lab he allegedly uses - "Speed Diagnosis dot com".
You can see his pitch about 1:30 at
Meanwhile - I look forward to your posts on your V8. That will give me somewhere to hang mine results as well!
I never posted my oil analysis from a decade plus ago on the forum (I still have them)...mostly because they were so good and nothing to report. It pains me to admit that I was presently surprised how well the engine performed - I was expecting some sort of problem / horror story. But the engine was working great.
We will see how things go now 15 years in, and after a major rebuild, and after I just shifted to a new product I purchased from Atlantic British - Liquid Moly Special Tech SAE 0W-20.*
So those are the motivations for me now:
how does this 0W-20 fare?
is that oil too thin?
are there metals now in there given the life of the engine or because of the rebuild?
how are the soot levels and whatnot?
Separately, back to your original post: I have never seen that issue with the o-ring. The trouble I have had with these filters is that if I get cheap ones (yes, I bought it on amazon 10 years ago...), then they don't seal well and then you have to over-tighten them so they don't leak (problem with those o-rings I think). But nothing ever came out looking like yours.
Lesson learned (yet again): just get the best filters and stuff you can (if you care).
Good luck with all!
