What scan tool to get

Hi all! New to the forum. Just bought a 2008 RR lr4 4.4 non supercharged. Has 183k miles. Im a diy mechanic. I have a couple questions and will post each separately

Looking for a scan tool to use to check and clear engine codes and calibrate the suspension. I’m getting “fuel cap loose” on the dash readout. Guessing since it’s a newer fuel cap that I need to check vacuum? But would like to be able to see how the rest of the system is operating. In relation to the scan tool again I replaced the front drivers side airbag and I wanted to calibrate the suspension. A couple fender wells seem to be an inch higher than the others. And access height seems high but then I can only compare it to an o8 Jeep grand Cherokee I used to own so maybe it’s correct but want to check it anyway

a Ranger Rover or an LR4? which do you have? guessing the Range Rover since it has the 4.4. regardless, GapID tool is the way to go for either vehicle.

Everyone says the gap but I went with the full SDD rip the dealer uses for $35. Then I used the extra $500 I saved to put towards a laptop and bought an i7 Acer. Either way you go its copyright theft and no different than buying pirated TV .

I have an Autel MK900-BT that I use for the rest of my cars; but for the Landy... I definitely use the Gap tool far more. If I have to do serious diagnostics, I'd probably use the Autel, but for just simple code checking or reading sensor data, the GAP is definitely good enough.

a Ranger Rover or an LR4? which do you have? guessing the Range Rover since it has the 4.4. regardless, GapID tool is the way to go for either vehicle.

I’ve had varied results with the “official” programs on laptops from other manufacturers. (Volvo, BMW, Audi) Haven’t tried with Land Rover, but the others are pretty difficult to get operating. To me, it’s well worth the extra $$ to have a user friendly device that works every time. Not to mention the convenience of opening the app on my phone on the fly if I get some type of error code. I couldn’t do that too conveniently with a laptop.

Yeah, its not for everyone. People don't need that much power and control over their rig. That and it requires virtual machine experience although that isn't hard to learn.

I’m yet to find a function the Gap doesn’t do so that helps as well.

As much as would like the GAP for my LR3, I have multiple car brands i work on and the GAP is VIN locked.

I currently use an Otofix D1. I downloaded the Land Rover diagnostics and it has done anything I needed so far including key programming. Also works on 40+ other brands. Not inexpensive at $500 but checked codes and reset service marks on VW, BMW and even a Tahoe.
