Chipped windshield

Happened on my way to socal three months after i bought my LR3. I let it be as the surrounding crack was really not that big at all (less then the diameter of a penny). Now after about two and a half years or so later i am noticing that the crack has progressed just a touch. thinking of getting the windscreen replaced or should i just leave it. i am just a bit afraid of it blowing up on my face while on a high speed freeway.

Is there a way to fix this without having to replace it. I have heard in the past that now chipped glass can be fixed by some technique (Mine has a heater in the windshield though, which still works). Also, if i have to replace the glass, can anyone recommend a good dealer here in the socal area for this kinda job, thanks.

Glass shops can fix it used to be 50 bucks up to the sze of like a quarter but you will still see a spot. It wont Blow up in your face. If it did you could buy Land Rover

I chipped my windshield twice two days after I bought my D3, just had the dealer patch it for $50, and they are hardly visible

thanks all. so i guess having heater' vertical wires in the shield is not a prob for getting it patched.

A windshield is really two sheets of glass with a sheet of plastic bonded in between. That plastic has the lines on it. They use some kind of black magic to make all of this adhere togehter and I hope to one day see something on the Discovery Channel to see them put one together. Anyway, your star is on the outside of the car, you can probably feel it with your finger nail. You probably can't feel it on trhe inside. It takes a pretty big impact to get the outside pane, the sheet and inside pane to all shear together.
When they repair this, they will force some clear epoxy goo into the cracks to keep them from expanding. The epoxy has no electrical value, so it won't be a problem. The worst case is you may have one or two lines inop, if the impact was severe enough to break the wires. I've seen that once, but that was a pretty big hit.
