So I was just curious how the LR3 faired overall now that its out of production and I convinced my mother and father to buy one for their trips from Scottsdale to Durango. I took a look at Edmunds and was pleasantly surprised at what I saw. There was just about all green dots for all model years. Not sure how they did the research, but pretty reassuring non-the-less.

Bogus data. JD Power "surveys" are funded by manufacturers. Consumer Reports surveys are funded by buyers. Which do you trust more as a buyer? :)

Positive reports like Edmunds improve resale value, negative ones hurt it. Which side are you on?

I bought an 06 LR3 SE with 35K on the clock back in December, so far has been flawless. I've owned Honda, Acura, Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, VW, Audi, Porsche, SAAB, Ford, Mercury, GMC, Dodge, Jeep. I put 125K on a new Dodge Durango with virtually no service other than routine mainenance and I had a new Honda Civic that had frequent problems. My view is that most European vehicles simply require more maintenance but generally hold up very well in the long run. If you properly maintain any new vehicle you should have good results. LR's can be a little quirky but I would take anything you read about reliability with a grain of salt.

I think the expectations are different for a honda than a LR too. I took my Rover in for steering wheel cover curling. I would have never botherd for my wifes Scion.

yeah....and Consumer Reports is written (in my opinion) by a bunch of pencil-necked ******-bags who think that the LR3 having an extra cupholder is more important than it having a locking rear diff. I don't give a crap what Consumer Reports says. They downgrade 4x4s for not handling like Ferrari's and for not having fuel efficiency like a Honda.

The LR3 is a Rover...a 4x4. It goes anywhere; it does anything. How about some appropriate criteria against which to judge it?

Now...for pure reliability; sure it has its issues, as stated above. Picky owners, too...as stated above.

CR downgraded my beloved Montero for reliability too back in '97. 8.5 years and 210,000 trouble-free miles later they can all kiss my ass!!!

Facts are facts guys. The opinion part of the CR surveys are written commentary by the CR staff, yes, but the survey data is not subjectively influenced by the CR staff. Every consumer gets the same survey regardless of the car, so the reliability data is normalized and will stand up to scientific peer review.

Now...if I'm a seller I'm interested in anything that will prop up the value. If I'm a buyer, I'm interested in the facts so I'll look at CR.
