Does anyone have any thoughts on the V6 engine for this vehicle. Dealer is pushing a low mileage dealer car with all options, but it has the v6. This would be my first LR... I've been a wrangler owner for years, but (sigh) you can't really put a car seat in a wrangler. Do off roading, both moutain and sand, and I live in NE, so there's quite a bit of snow.

Thanks in advance.

We live at 6000ft so our V8 is probably somewhat equivalent to driving a V6 in Nebraska. Ours is great in the snow (tires make a big difference - we are running General Grabber AT2s), the power is more than adequate, and in the limited off roading I've done it has been great. I haven't owned a Wrangler, but I would bet that the LR3 can go most places the Wrangler can, especially if you take in to consideration the longer wheelbase. And you'll do it in significantly more comfort, more room, more safety and more luxury (more cost too ).

Bottom line, I think you'll be really pleased.

Hi I have the SE 7 V8. During one of my services, the dealer gave me a V6 as a loaner. Although it was fine, the V8 is smoother and noticeably stronger. I would suggest that you drive a V8 to allow you to compare the two. If you are not planning to do any towing, the V6 should be fine. Just watch out for those Hyundai Santa Fe drivers.

I've driven both V6 and V8 (I own a V8 HSE) and agree with GMTIIFAN, the V8 is smoother. They both accelerate about the same but the V6 seems a bit louder and like it is struggling a bit more to match pace with the V8.

I would definately drive both to compare for yourself.

This is another one of those "hey guys, what do I need and/or want?" kind of threads. The V6 is perfectly adequate for anything but hauling the biggest trailers. Would you prefer to go faster or save $5g? As a ***** to my ego, I had no choice in the matter...

Any way you look at the LR3 is slow v6 does 0 to 60 in 8.8 the V8 does it in 8.4 if you want some thing fast get Jeep SRT8.

The V6 seems to have different gearing to make up for having less power than the V8. I agree that the acceleration (from a stop) is about the same, but the transmissions are tuned differently.

I also agree with the speed comments, but aside from speed there is a question of power and torque; both of which play a role in off-road performance.

So, yeah...what do you really want to do with this rig?

Haven't off roaded with a V6, but in 4 lo it should go through most anything shouldn't it? My old range rovers had far less power than the new V6 and I never had a problem. After all, Nwoods as a V6 and does as much off roading as anybody from what I can tell...

Hmmm....well maybe gearing is more important than power, but I'd bet deep down inside Nathan would trade his V6 for a V8.
