Last night I picked up my ride, which was getting the new wood trim kit installed...improved, I have to say. Anyhow, dude at the service dept. said that the latest 'mystery-fault' coming down the pike is a "check engine light" that comes on seemingly due to a mis-communication with the 02 sensor. He said that they can't find a fix and that they've had to buy back 2 cars already !!

Wow, they bought 2 back because of that? That's pretty good.
I've driven about 250000 miles in Land Rovers and of that, the check engine light has probably been on about 175000.
I used to go into the service department and tell them it was on. They'd say "Is it running ok? Then don't worry about it"
p.s. nowadays they say "Is it running ok? Well it's still gonna cost at least $800)"

...if I heard "don't worry about it" from my dealer at 15,000 miles I'd probably not be very happy. I expect a new car to run almost flawlessly. Being a first-year model, I cut the LR3 some slack, but the dealer needs to be just as tolerant with me as I am with LR and fix the stuff when I bring it in...and they have been.

I wasn't referring to your situation Houm, rather the Land Rover's over-zealous check engine light. The "Don't worry about it's" were when it was out of warranty and on my dime.
Under warranty, of course they should make sure it's fixed.

hey guys, I was wheeling with the Chicago Land Rover Club @ Spring Pipeline event in Northern WI. Took my 05 SE without the HD package this weekend through some moderately challenging but very muddy terain. LR3 wheeled flawlessly until we were wrapping up the day and heading back to camp when we parked in a large clearing to get everyone ready for the ride. Upon starting the car to leave I went to shift from low range to hi while still in Off road height and well it didn't like it one bit. It was like hitting jackpot on the slots... lights all over and I think I got every error message in the book:
Engine Fault
Transmission Fault
Parking Break Fault
HDC Fault
Suspension Fault (Lowered to Access Height and woudln't raise)
and the car would not allow me adjust anything, not suspension or from lo to hi.
Tried on off cycles two dozen times and nothing. Disconnected the battery and drained all circuits, nothing. so we gave up and went back to the camp site to get the Duramax and trailer for a tow & as we were starting the rover to pull on the trailer; half of the system faults dissappeared. Suspension was now working and only faults remaining were engine fault and transission fault, and was able to shift out of low into hi. Decided to drive it back to camp 21 miles in limp home mode with the truck and trailer following back and was restricted to guessing 3rd gear.
Miraculously I let it idle for an hour or two at the camp site, turned it off; went to bed and got up the next morning with all faults gone and handled the 5 hour drive home like nothing ever happened. Sorry for the long story but one has anyone seen this before, and know of probable cause and how to prevent? haven't taken it to the dealer... yet.

I as well have been receiving the three messages on my '05 SE w/ HD package, starting with the HDC system unavailable, trannmission fault - stop safely, and then slightly afterward suspension fault and special programs not available, along with the accompanying warning lights (DSC, etc) and the lowered suspension (although sometimes it doesn't seem to go all the way to access height). No change in the suspension height indicator at the time, but after a restart, the HDC message appears briefly, and the suspension indicator shows offroad height while the truck remains at access, with all other faults gone. Selecting normal with one movement of the selector raises the truck back to normal (opposite to the movement of the selector) and all is good for between 2 and 5 kilometers, at which point it all goes again.

I have done some digging here and elsewhere, and beyond the additional details noted above, I am thinking 1) rear diff or 2) stuck parking switch. I had the same faults before with a weak battery, but can confirm the battery is still good and alternator seems strong (over 100 amps output, but gauge cuts off). I did replace the compressor several months ago with the updated version and haven't had it in for any software updates. Anyone else with additional specifications during/after the faults?
